Liposuction

WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which a narrow, metal tube called a cannula is placed beneath the skin through very small incisions. The cannula is moved back and forth to break up fat cells and sculpt your body into its ideal form. It can be used to remove fat almost anywhere on the face, neck and body including the:

  • Chin
  • Neck
  • arms
  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Breasts
  • Hips
  • inner/outer thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Knees

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction allows for removal of unwanted fat and can permanently change body contour provided that your weight remains stable. For limited liposuction procedures, patients are able to recover with minimal downtime and can often return to work within a week of surgery, though will be recommended to wear compression clothing 24/7 for several weeks after surgery. The procedure is performed through tiny incisions that are usually imperceptible after healing. Swelling can be present for several months after surgery though some improvement in body contour can be noticed immediately. Large volume liposuction (5-15L) for lipedema typically requires overnight hospitalization, a minimum of 2 weeks limited activity and compression garments for a minimum of 6 weeks.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LIPOSUCTION?

People with target areas of stubborn excess fat resistant to diet and exercise and those without significant excess skin are excellent candidates for liposuction. People who suffer from lipedema, a condition causing abnormal and painful fat hypertrophy, can have life-changing improvement with removal of liters of fat through liposuction.
